Leader or Bureaucrat

One part is a characteristic of a bureaucrat. The other part is a characteristic of a leader. Each is in no particular order.

Wants people. Wants spreadsheets.

Creates people who follow. Creates people worth following.

Seeks out people with experience. Seeks out experts with numbers.

Stands in the front, telling people how to do their jobs. Sits in the back, listening to people figure how how to do their jobs.

Wants those who follow to walk behind. Wants those who follow to walk beside.

Creates independence. Creates dependence.

Wants to be expendable. Wants to be indispensable.

Wants their name known. Wants their people known.

Me. We.

Considers appropriate knowledge as knowing a great deal about a very little. Considers appropriate knowledge as knowing just enough about just enough.

Seeks reasonable. Seeks perfection.

Has emotion that advises intellect. Has emotion that dominates intellect.

Understands that people are a blend of intellect and emotions. Wants people to be reducible to numbers.

Chooses the control of complexity. Chooses the freedom of simplicity.

Saves my freedom first and my life second. Saves only my life because freedom doesn't fit in a spreadsheet.

Understand that no one is all one and none the other. Everyone is a blend. Everyone is part the first statement and part the second.

There's no such thing as perfection. Good thing. It's why humans are able make a tomorrow that will make a tomorrow. There will never be a final today.
