Trust - The Glue of a Nation

The glue called trust binds The People and government together to form a nation. The chains called force cages people and government together to form only a geography, not a nation.
America markets itself as nation of trust. What is this thing called trust that America claims to have?
Trust isn’t a fact. It’s a belief. It’s an assumption. It’s a perception. You believe it’s possible or impossible. You’ll never know trust or distrust. The best you can do is to strongly believe. A belief, no matter how strong, can turn out to be wrong.
Trust isn’t math. It isn’t a formula. It’s a feeling. It’s an emotion. It’s neither an immovable object nor an irresistible force. It’s a weathervane blown by the winds of emotions. It’s as variable or fixed as the emotional winds.
Trust is a willingness to bring close, not a desire push away.
Trust is having the flexibility to discuss, rather than the rigidity to argue. Argue – Two people, whacking each other up-side the head with 2X4’s, trying to change the other’s mind. Discuss – Two people, trying to understand what the other means, not just listen to what they say, regardless of agreeing or disagreeing.
Trust is understanding the fellow American reason for two ears and just one mouth.
Trust is a desire to have one nation, not two parties (called factions by the Founding Fathers).
Trust is a desire to use an aisle to walk along with, rather than to keep away from (the concept of “across the aisle”).
Trust recognizes disagreement as a method for understanding, rather than a reason for war.
Trust is a willingness to follow, rather than a demand to lead.
Trust is something The People create and something people destroy.
Trust comes from The People into government, it can’t come from government into people.
Trust is one means to survival, lacking it is one means to self-destruction.
Is trust what The People want or simply what government markets and people don’t want?
Just a fellow American
